A series of methyl-terminated oligooxyethylene ( CH 3( OCH 2 CH 2)n O , n = 8.8)-substituted phthalocyanines with peripheral substitution at four β positions, at four α positions and at the eight α positions was synthesized and structurally characterized. These compounds are isotropic liquids above 10 °C. Non-linear optical properties of the tetra-α- and tetra-β-substituted compounds were examined. Both are reverse saturable absorbers in the visible region of the spectrum, but the tetra-α-substituted compound has the larger non-linear absorption coefficient and can be a useful optical limiter in cases where a non-volatile liquid is desirable.

Iraqi oil crudes have some of the physical and chemical characteristics that distinguish it from other types of oil crudes in the world. Some of these features such us molecular composition, rheological, viscosity and emulsions are studied carefully by researchers. In this work, a comparative study of the linear and the non-linear optical properties for typical heavy and light crude oils of Iraqi origin was studied utilizing Z-scan technique. The He -Ne laser of wavelength 632.8 nm had been used for this purpose. These samples were collected from Basra and Kut oil fields. The values of the non-linear refractive index (n2), non-linear absorption coefficient (β), and third-order electrical susceptibility (χ3) were estimated respectively. The obtained results show that Iraqi oil has a significant linear and non-linear optical properties.

Thin films of CuPc of various thicknesses (150,300 and 450) nm have been deposited using pulsed laser deposition technique at room temperature. The study showed that the spectra of the optical absorption of the thin films of the CuPc  are two bands of absorption one in the visible region at about 635 nm, referred to as Q-band, and the second in ultra-violet region where B-band is located at 330 nm. CuPc thin films were found to have direct band gap with values around (1.81 and 3.14 (eV respectively. The vibrational studies were carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Finally, From open and closed aperture Z-scan data non-linear absorption coefficient and non-linear refractive index have been calculated respectively using He-Ne laser which have beam waist of (24.2 μm), wave-length of (632.8 nm) and Rayleigh thickness was 2.9 mm.

Abstract In this research, the spectral properties of Absorption and Fluorescence of synthetic coconut oil (Local made) have been studied. It was found that the efficiency of coconut oil equal to (3.276%). In addition, non-linear optical properties represented by the refractive index (n2) and absorption coefficient(β) have been calculatal using three –dimensioual scanning technigue (z-scan and Helium Neom laser. Refractive inex (n2=4.231×10-7 cm2/mW) and absorption coefficient (β= 0.72373 cm/mW) have been measured from Closed-aperture part and Open-aperture part, respectively. Coconut oil has non-linear properties, where it can be utilize in nonlinear spectral applications, especially in the study the living tissue through its application and its treatment with laser.

Novel donor-acceptor triads of starburst D-A-A type incorporating electron deficient triazine moiety as a non-conjugating π-spacer/acceptor with two acceptor/anchoring arms comprising of cyanoacetic acid (DTP-CYA), rhodanine-3-acetic acid (DTP-RHA), barbituric acid (DTP-BA) or thiobarbituric acid (DTP-TBA) linked to triazine core via a phenyl bridge have been synthesized. Diphenylamine is used as the donor moiety and the role of the π-spacer on the absorption spectra and other electronic properties were studied. All the compounds were tested for their non-linear optical properties and determined the non-linear absorption coefficient (β) and non-linear refractive index (n2) in DMF solutions. Improved non-linear optical properties were obtained when compared to the compounds with triazine moiety as a non-conjugating π-spacer/acceptor with rhodanine-3-acetic acid (DTOP-RHA), barbituric acid (DTOP-BA) or thiobarbituric acid (DTOP-TBA) as anchoring/acceptor groups. DTOP series compounds are in the geometry of the molecule where the phenyl π-bridge and the triazine unit are coplanar with the arylidne acceptor unit. The enhanced performance may be due to the structural variants, which expected to improve through bond coupling between the donor and the terminal acceptor parts of the molecules and all compounds show asymmetry in the electron density due to the basic donor-acceptor nature of the structure.
